Dora and twins.

This is the second cake I’ve decorated and learned some things along the way. I made the cakes- yellow cake and buttercream icing both from the Wilton website. My daughter adores Dora so we used to the toy twins she already had and then found a Dora from the top of a bubble bath bottle. We got the design idea from this website- a submission that was much more complicated with three tiers so we simplified it to our liking.

I

put on a thin layer to seal in the crumbs and let that firm up overnight. I loved the colors on the cake- bright and vivid. The clouds were easy to pipe on and the rainbows are pretty straightforward. I had an issue of bulging on one side of the cake and so strategically placed a butterfly there! This cake was a three layer and probably would stick to two layers in the future. I had bought a black tube of glossy icing for the letters and thought I’d use this for the wings on the bugs. Turns out it gets runny when applying to the side of a cake, so I wouldn’t do that again. The bottom detail was a simple loop design which seems to be the easiest trim for me.

It was a whole afternoon to get the decorating done but the ‘ooohhhs and awwws’ from her friends made it worth it.
