Dr. Seuss Cake

For this Dr. Seuss cake, used a full cake sheet and filled it with three cake boxes of batter. I made the cake red velvet so it would be a fun color when it was cut.

The longest part was making all of the different colors of frosting - red, yellow, blue, purple, and black, and changing the tips. I haven't used many of the tips before so I had to practice on the side right before I frosted with each tip. I am a novice with cake decorating.

I frosted the cake white. Next, I used the tip for basket weaving and put a yellow strip across the bottom edge of the cake. I used another tip to put blue shells around the edge of the bottom of the cake. Next, I used red icing and zigz-zagged the edging on the top of the cake. Stars were added around the edge of the cake.

I took a picture of The Cat in the Hat juggling on a ball and cut it out precisely on the lines. I gently laid it on the cake and used a toothpick to etch the shape onto the cake. I then filled the shape with white icing so the images would not be flat. I then outlined and added detail to the cat. I did the same with Thing 1. I made two trees and used the leaf tip. I finally added the writing, which I've never done before and I almost ran out of room. You can do this with any shapes and characters.
