I wanted to make a dumbo cake for my 2 year old's birthday. so i started to brain storm and after seeing other cakes on the internet I came up with this one. It's just two 9inch round cakes layered with frosting in the middle. I then started with the red strip so I knew how far down to go with the zigzags. then I put the blue on the top and the side and after that filled in the rest with yellow and added the white dots. Then I traced the cake pan on a piece of paper, to get the right size, drew and cut out a star put it on the top of the cake and traced that and then filled it in. using the same piece of paper i traced the stuffed dumbo and cut that out so i knew exactly how much space and what shape he would be on the star so it didn't show and then I could put it under Dumbo and keep him clean. I did it all with a med. size round tip and it took just under two containers of frosting, for the outside. also something i should have done was either wait to put the paper on until just before serving or used wax paper. My daughter can keep the dumbo on top too.
