Easy Butterfly Cake

I made this butterfly cake for my daughter’s first birthday. It was super easy! It is a caramel mud cake with caramel icing and pink butter-cream decorations.

The shape of this cake is made by cutting a circular cake in half and taking a small wedge from the flat side of each half. The curved sides are placed together and then the decorations can be iced as desired.

It is iced down the sides and has pink icing around the base to neaten the edges. By icing around the edge at the top the shape of the butterfly is really defined. I decided to keep the swirls simple but you could make it really fancy. I used three white chocolate buttons for the body and two pieces of wire with jellybeans for the antenna.

For the pink icing I used a plastic clip-lock bag with a corner cut off and then squeezed the icing through.

  2. I’ve looked at lots of the butterfly cakes and this one looks the easiest. I think I am going to make my Daughter this cake for her 6th Birthday tomorrow. She loves purple and “rainbow” colors, so I am going to make the butterfly with a bit more color. Great idea! Thanks for sharing =).
