Electric Guitar Cake

ELECTRIC GUITAR

ELECTRIC GUITAR

This cake was requested for the birthday of an "eighties baby". The request was for a black electric guitar sporting photos, songs, bands and lingo depicting the eighties. The cake is chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing used for filling as well as under the fondant. Adding buttercream (or your favorite icing) to the cake first, helps the fondant stick. The tuning knobs and string plates are all made of pre-tinted black fondant and plain white fondant. I used toothpicks as skewers to hold them on. The gold beads used on the cake are edible. The birthday boy was a fan of "A Flock of Seagulls", "Fast Times At Ridgemont High", and "Karate Kid" back in the eighties, so I had these pictures printed at a local grocery store bakery. The pictures are printed on edible icing and must be peeled from a paper backing and added to the cake. In order to save money, I had all three pictures printed on one 8x10 page and cut them out with a pizza cutter. After cutting them out, a little water brushed on to the back to act as "glue" and you simply add them to the cake. After adding electric blue writing and white strings, the project was done.
