Elmo Cake

Here's my attempt at a 3D Elmo Cake.

Body: I used the Wilton 3D teddy bear cake mold. I shaved off the ears and muzzle. Carved out a mouth where black frosting would go.

Eyes: I used gumpaste to roll the eyes and piped on black buttercream dots for the eyes. Attach with toothpicks.

Nose: I used gumpaste to mold Elmo's nose and mixed in orage wilton gel to get the orange color. Attach with toothpick.

Elmo's hair: I used the grass tip to pipe on red hair for elmo. Since Elmo's so red, I used roughly 2.5 bottles of Wilton's No Taste Red gel to achieve that dark red color.

Alphabet Blocks: I cut out blocks from fondant premade from Wilton's. (buy this at Michaels) and piped on letters for the name.

This is a great cake. So great actually that I decided to try it out too. It was a hit. Now when I did it I had a bit of a problem trying to get the eyes to stay out but it made it through the party for the birthday boy. Again thanks soooo much for posting this.

I just started this past year making birthday cakes for my granddaughters birthdays... I have been asked to make an Elmo cake for a friend of my daughter's son's first birthday ... I am going to be creative and try this but going to make it on top of a sheet cake with presents to add a little extra punch.... Pray I don't lose my mind...
