With the help of my daughter-in-law and grand-daughter I did the Elmo Birthday Cake cake using the Wilton Elmo face. Steph drew the body and Sam designed the balloon cakes to go with Elmo. It took 6 cake mixes to make the whole project. Two large butter cream batches. Lots of red and use the Wilton not the cheap stuff.
We used the grass tip for Elmo and the Wilton Cookie recipe for the letters for the happy birthday Landon (they are great tasting). The body is a double layer to give it the buggy tummy look. This group of cakes will feed at least 40 hungry cake eaters.
This Elmo Birthday Cake is the second decorated cake I have ever made, so I was worried. I used an oval cake pan for the head and king sized muffin tin to make the eyes and nose. I just used Wilton's buttercream icing and regular chocolate cake.
Red is the worst color to try to get, so Elmo looked a little more salmon then true red. I just used a star tip, mainly cause that's all I had.
My two year old nephew was happy so that's all that matters.
I made this simple Elmo Birthday Cake for my birthday. It was made with 2 9" cakes stacked and frosted red. I also made 3 cupcakes. Two of them I left whole and frosted them white for the eyes. I used black gel for the eye balls.
For the other cupcake I cut off the bottom half and frosted the top half orange for the nose. I used black gel to make the mouth.
