Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

With the help of my daughter-in-law and grand-daughter I did the Elmo Birthday Cake cake using the Wilton Elmo face. Steph drew the body and Sam designed the balloon cakes to go with Elmo. It took 6 cake mixes to make the whole project. Two large butter cream batches. Lots of red and use the Wilton not the cheap stuff.

We used the grass tip for Elmo and the Wilton Cookie recipe for the letters for the happy birthday Landon (they are great tasting). The body is a double layer to give it the buggy tummy look. This group of cakes will feed at least 40 hungry cake eaters.

Your Elmo Cake. Please Help!
by: Jennifer

Hi ,
I saw your elmo cake posted online and it is exactly what I am looking to do for my 2 yr. old daughter in July. I just want to make the elmo head, body , arms and legs. Not the 2 additional cakes that you have shown. What did you use for Elmo's arms and legs? How many boxes of double layer cake mix will I need for his arms, legs and body?

Thanks for any help you can provide in advance.

Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

This Elmo Birthday Cake is the second decorated cake I have ever made, so I was worried. I used an oval cake pan for the head and king sized muffin tin to make the eyes and nose. I just used Wilton's buttercream icing and regular chocolate cake.

Red is the worst color to try to get, so Elmo looked a little more salmon then true red.
I just used a star tip, mainly cause that's all I had.

My two year old nephew was happy so that's all that matters.

I used the Wilton's Elmo cake pan for my Elmo Birthday Cake. I mixed a package of red jello in with the red icing so that it would taste better. A friend gave me the idea to use the jello.

I baked a set of cupcakes. I put red stars all over the cupcake. I used 2 brown plain M&M's for eyes, 1 orange peanut M&M for the nose, and a line of black icing for the mouth.

Questions about the cake
by: Melissa Davis

Hi,

I was interested in knowing more about how exactly you made this cake and cupcakes. I am planning to do this for my niece second birthday. I have been searching for recipes to follow if you can let me know any advice on how to make this that would be great.

Thanks,
Melissa D.

I made this simple Elmo Birthday Cake for my birthday. It was made with 2 9" cakes stacked and frosted red. I also made 3 cupcakes. Two of them I left whole and frosted them white for the eyes. I used black gel for the eye balls.

For the other cupcake I cut off the bottom half and frosted the top half orange for the nose. I used black gel to make the mouth.

This Elmo Birthday Cake is my first Wilton cake mold I've made! It was for my nephew Elijah's 1st Birthday. I was pretty excited doing it.

It took about 45 minutes to decorate. Since then I've done other Wilton moldings like , Tinkerbell, Princess crown, Cupcake, and a Cars.
