This Elmo Birthday Cake Idea was made from scratch. It consists of 2 sheet cakes, 2 rounds, and 3 cupcakes. The cake is a delicious carrot cake and the cupcakes were chocolate (for those allergic to the nuts). We made the cakes and froze them overnight. The next night we made a gallon of white icing, frosted the sheet cakes and two cupcakes white. Then we cut a crescent off the top of the rounds to shape it more oval with corners for the mouth. Then we frosted this, the head red. Place them on top of one another and then on top of the 2 sheets.
Size up the cupcake eyes on the cut pieces from the round and place on top of the sheet to support the eyes. Frost the 3rd cupcake orange for the nose. Place Oreo cookies on the eyes. Finally use black icing for the mouth. Clear out the freezer for this quadruple layered cake of goodness. Enjoy!
My nephew was turning 2 and he loves Elmo. His mother asked me to make Elmo Birthday Cupcakes to go along with the theme for his party. I made regular yellow cake for the cupcakes, I frosted them in butter cream then to get the natural red color of Elmo. I rolled them in red sugar.
I used DOTS candy for the nose, only the orange ones. I used Marshmallows for the eyes (these are the large ones, I cut them in half). I used chocolate melts for the eyes and mouth, after I melted the candy I drew a mouth for all the cupcakes and a set of eyes put, them in the freezer to get hard and applied it with a little frosting I think they turned out great and they were a big hit at the party.
This was very time consuming though but worth it in the end. He was very happy with them.
This Homemade Elmo Birthday Cupcakes and Cake is very simple if you have the Wilton Elmo cake pan. Just bake according to directions on pan and also bake a batch of cupcakes. One tip for decorating cake: if you let the frosting get slightly warm before piping the red star shapes, Elmo's "fur" will appear fluffier (and less pointy) and shinier.
For the cupcakes I used Elmo cupcake liners. Frost each with red frosting. Tip: gel food coloring works much better than liquid for achieving a bright red color. Then, for each cupcake cut the following in half: a marshmallow, a black jelly bean and an orange gumball. The jelly beans will stick best if you apply them to the sticky side of the cut marshmallow.
Easy and cute!

I wanted to make a small cake for a second birthday party for a little girl who LOVES Elmo! The Elmo Birthday Cake Idea is a basic chocolate cake split in two with raspberry curd in between the two layers. I iced it with yellow-coloured buttercream icing (made with icing sugar, milk and margarine).
The Elmo is sculptured entirely from marshmallow fondant icing that I made the day before, coloured red and refrigerated to keep it firm. The pink dots around the base are also marshmallow fondant and the birthday girl loved eating them!
This was a really simple cake that looked effective once it was completed.
The Elmo Birthday Cake Idea was a full baby Elmo sculpted out of rice-crispy treats, covered in red icing used from a "furr or grass tip". He was playing with blocks that said Happy Birthday Aiden and he was holding a block that had a #1 on the front of it. He was sitting on top of a large square cake that was yellow and right underneath him and hanging over the edges was a blue thin sheet of fondant made to look like a blue rug or blanket with blue fringe.
