Homemade Zelda birthday cake

by sydeny
(PA)

I made this Zelda themed cake for my boyfriend's birthday who was turning 19. He's been a huge fan of Zelda since he was a little kid, playing all the video games. Yet he had never had a Zelda themed cake before an so was thrilled with his cake and loved the link topper. I made the link topper separately a day in advance an then assembled it on the cake. The cake transported pretty well to his house. Link was made out of fondant, and the cake is covered in fondant as well. I have a couple small wood dowels in link body to help support the fondant. It's all cake under the layer of green fondant, an I painted the letters on with black food coloring. After this cake, I made cake pops for his next birthday that were of link face. Also did cake pops in that batch of the triforce with the wings.

Homemade Very Hungry Caterpillar Cupcake Birthday Cake

by Tina Villanueva
(Honolulu, Hawaii)

This is a cake that was made for a friend's daughter's birthday this past weekend. The theme was The Very Hungry Caterpillar and so I went online to get some ideas. I frequently saw a nice cupcake cake and mirrored it after that one, also using the original book images to make sure I had the colors right. So after 5 hours of baking 60+ cupcakes (yelllow and chocolate) and preparing the cream cheese frosting, I put them into the refrigerator to cool.
The next day I decided to get some cake stands to set the extra cupcakes on while I formed the caterpillar with majority of the cupcakes.

Everyone enjoyed looking at the cake and eating the cupcakes of course!

Homemade Yo Gabba Gabba Cake

by Krissy
(New Jersey)

I made this cake for my son's 2nd birthday. He is a huge Yo Gabba Gabba fan. The bottom cake was a yellow cake filled with buttercream icing and blueberries and the top cake was a chocolate cake filled with chocolate pudding. Both were dirty iced and then covered with homemade marshmallow fondant. I colored the fondant orange and yellow to represent DJ Lance. I then purchased figures of the characters and attached them to the cake. The figures were one of my son's birthday presents. I cut out stars to represent DJ Lance as well. The cake was a huge hit and very fun to make.

Coolest Valentine Cake

I couldnt find my heart shaped cake pan so I made a round cake and square one. I cut the round one in half and turned the square on an angle to make the heart shape. Then iced with red buttercream frosting. I made the candy wrappers by painting melted chocolate into mini cupcake wrappers, let them chill then removed the wrapper. I added store bought heart shaped chocolates to put in each chocolate wrapper to make the cake look like a heart shaped candy box. Then added candy hearts around the outside.

Homemade wedding cake

by Angela
(Johnston haverfordwest)

My son asked me to make his wedding cake, so this is it, the bottom tier is a fruit cake , then the other tiers are chocolate and vanilla. these were made , iced with fondant icing and then stacked to form the four tier cake, the flowers on top were made from petal paste a few weeks in advance to allow them to dry . a very easy cake to make , it had to be as it was my first attempt at a wedding cake.
