Homemade Thomas the Train and Friends Adventure Cake

by Susan

this is my very first fondant cake. i made this cake in Thomas thyme for my sons 4th birthday. he is super in love with all things Thomas since he was 1 and this was his first cake request.HOW TO MAKE IT: i started by using 2 round pans one was a 9" and the other was a 8".once it came out of the oven i let it sit for 1hr so it would be easier to cut and make the design i was looking for.i carved the 8'' into like a 6'' to make the small decal trains fit. the excess i used it at the bottom to make the floor.then with marshmallow fondant(mmf) i made the tidmouth sheds, pine trees apple, lemon ,and cherry trees clouds ,bushes, the sun..etc... for the clouds i used fondant blue icing and silver sprinkles for the tracks i used gray sprinkles so it looks like the rocks you find in train tracks and some brown sprinklesto make it look alittle more like the tracks while the cake was baking. the cake was vanilla flavored an i used chocolate frosting and mixed it with one 8oz jar of raspberry jam with seeds to give it the extra yummy taste. once i mixed it i cover the cake with it.for the floor i cover it with brown mmf.for the middle one 9" i carved it as if it was going down hill.then i covered the top and mid part with blue mmf so it look like the sky.once i stacked them on top of each other i started to add all the decorations i had made.on top i put sparklers so it look like fire works. and that was the cake i made for my little Thomas and friends fanatic.

Homemade Turtle Birthday Cake

by Annie and Morgan

My daughter collects and loves anything turtle! We decided to make her 12th birthday cake ourselves and to make a turtle cake. Keep in mind I am not by any means a graceful baker!

My sister had a baking pan set that interlocks so you make two cakes at once that fit in side each other. This allows you to make two different types of cake and put them together with icing or filling of your choice in the middle. It was a Betty Crocker pan. I had bought a cake pop pan so with these items we started our cake.

We made 1 of the cakes vanilla and one chocolate and filled with chocolate icing. The put together cake was a dome shape that looks just like a turtle shell. We then made chocolate cake pops, cut them in halp and dipped them in melted chocolate disks and let harden. The face and tail were made of Rice Krispie treats molded to shape and frosted. We frosted the entire thing green by way of food color and white frosting mixed. We then put the chocolate dipped cake pops on top to form the shell. My daughter then drew on the face with frosting gel and it is done!

It was time consuming but fairly easy and cost way less to make than to buy! EVERYONE LOVED IT! SUCCESS!
