Lexie's 10th Birthday...

by Jill Davis
(Valdosta, GA)

I made this cake for my best friend's daughter. It was my second fondant cake. She had her 10th birthday at the gym where she takes gymnastics. We wanted something pretty and girly, but not really keeping with the gymnastics theme.
The cake was a butter recipe with buttercream icing. I used cookie cutters for the polka dots and the flowers. I used jewelry wire to hold the fondant balls. I made a really cute 10 that was going to "pop" out of the top, but it broke. At the last minute I made another. Without adequate time to dry, my only choice was to place it on the side of the cake. There was already a polka dot there and I wish I had taken it off. I was scared it wouldn't come off easily, so I put it over it. It's a little too busy there for me, but that's okay.
Everyone loved the cake!!

Homemade Basketball Cake

by Anna E.
(Ohio)

This is a basketball birthday cake I made for my older brother. It's two 9" round pans stacked on top of each other. I used buttercream icing. Frost the first then place the second on top. Smooth top ond sides. Use a meat mallet to press in sort of a basketball look. Use a round tip to make a straight line down the center then one across. Then to rounded on the side. A very simple cake and tasty to. Here's the recipe for the delicious buttercream.

1 cup butter
2 TB water
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar.
Beat together until smooth. Enjoy!

Homemade Leopard Print Cake

Leopard Print Cake

Leopard Print Cake

Chocolate triple layer sponge with choc buttercream and fresh strawberry filling.

Ivory tinted Fondant. Black dye paste mixed with vodka and stamped on rough 'C' shapes out of solid non crumbling polystyrene. Brush painted yellow colour in the dots and once almost dry - I brushed gold glitter onto the yellow dots.

Placed a ribbon on the the base and inserted black feathers on top.

Overall effect was fantastic!

Although I did want a 'happy birthday' ribbon in hot pick but cake shop didn't have any so had to layer plain pink underneath.

Homemade Barbie Get Well Cake

by heather
(cleveland, ohio)

i was asked to make this for a 12 year old girl, koiya, who was in the hospital and was waiting for a transplant. though it was difficult, i pulled it off. the doll used in the cake was her favorite disney princess. it was delivered to the hospital and i was told by the nurses that this was the first smile on her face in months, which made all of my hard work, seem like no big deal. the feeling to help make her feel special was priceless.
