Homemade Mud Race 1st Birthday Cake

by Adelaide B.
(Pen Argyl, PA)

I wanted to make my son's cake with "Chuck" cars. I also wanted to make it cute enough for his first birthday.

I baked two half sheet( 12 inches x 18 inches)cakes. I put them side by side on a large board and iced them with a thin coat of buttercream. I made a batch of green buttercream and a batch of chocolate butter cream.

I iced one cake with the green buttercream to make the grass, but left an area for the chocolate buttercream. I finished the rest of that cake and the second cake with the chocolate buttercream. Next, I outlined a windy track with black icing. Then, I crushed Oreo cookies (filling gladly taken out by my daughters) and sprinkled the crumbs into the black outline. I also sprinkled some around the rest of the "mud". I wrote Happy Birthday in the grassy part of the cake and made a wheel with the black icing and placed a candle in the center. The last thing I did was place the "Chuck" cars on the track and pushed one or two in the mud.

It was a very simple cake to make and all of the children LOVED it. I even caught one boy pushing the cars on the track!

Homemade Baby Shower Cake

by Jennifer C.
(Surrey, United Kingdom )

I had the idea to make a silhouette of a pregnant woman for my friends baby shower, I made the cake in Pyrex bowls two small and one medium sized I used a normal sponge cake recipe and just cooked it for a little longer. Then i made the cake into a victoria sponge by cutting it in half and adding jam and buttercream I then positioned the cakes next to each other so they looked like a pregnant belly and boobs I then crumb coated the cake, then covered the cake in Ruby coloured sugar paste as my friend was calling her little one Ruby then I made a frill at the bottom so it looked like a dress I then rolled out some white chocolate flavoured sugar paste and cut a long strip to cover the middle of the cake and then cut two smaller pieces to look like a bow and then added several small circles to make the pokka dot dress. I then wrote Ruby on the tummy and added pink feet. My friend had no idea what I was making and she loved it and I was very pleased with how it turned out .

Coolest Barbie Brithday Cake 375

This a cake I made while doing a cake decorating course. except round and square trays i had a barbie tray. so i thought of giving it a try. This is a butter cake and I used butter frosting for the decorations. This cake was made in about 4 hours. About half an hour was required to make the cake and butter frosting. To bake the oven it required 50 minutes.

The butter cake was made using the following ingredients.
250g butter
5 egg
250g flour
250g sugar
1tsp vanilla
2tsp milk

Ingredients for butter frosting
250g butter
500g icing sugar
1tsp vanilla.

I used red and white color on the cake. First I covered the whole cake with a thin layer of butter frosting. So when adding stars even if there was a small gap it wont be visible and cake will look nice. For the front of the skirt i used frills and the rest of the dress was covered using star tip nozzle. The cake was easy to make and delicious. My family members loved it and I was very happy with the cake as it was my first attempt in making a barbie cake.
