This Father's Day Polo Shirt Cake is my second attempt to use fondant. I put on a thin icing coat, let cool for about an hour, then I put on a thicker coat of icing and used the paper towel smooth method.
I rolled out the fondant. I was worried on how it was going come out. I thought the collar was going be hard to make but it came out pretty good for a second try. The buttons were easy. I used a button impress. I practiced the night before with the polo logo.
He loved the cake. Polo is his favorite, he was happy with the cake.
I made this cake for my husband's 30th Birthday Party. I got the idea from a Father's Day cake I found in a recipe book. I took two sheet cakes and stacked them, cutting some what of a tray out of the top layer.
I then applied a crumb coating and covered store bought dark chocolate fondant. I made the cover out of cardboard and covered with the extra fondant. The cigars are made from chocolate molds as well as the Masonic symbol. The corners were "painted" with gold dust mixed with vodka.
This was a Father's Day Harley Davidson Cake for my dad. He is a Harley owner so I thought I would make him a Harley cake. I used a 9 inch square cake pan, one chocolate cake mix. The Harley emblem is fondant and gumpaste colored with black Wilton gel and the flame are also gumpaste fondant colored.
After icing the cake with buttercream frosting I trimmed the cake with orange shells. He loved it, so far I've gotten more orders for this cake for Birthdays!!
