I used the buttercream transfer idea from Kellie A. on this website (Toy Story Cake)for this Finding Nemo Cake.
I made the Finding Nemo characters by tightly pulling plastic wrap over a coloring book page. I outlined the picture with black icing and put it in the freezer to set. Then I used thinned out icing (thinned with corn syrup) to fill in all the different colors...just like coloring in a book).
I put it back in the freezer to set. Afterwards I put a layer of icing on the back and refroze. Finally I flipped the buttercream transfer onto the iced cake and carefully peeled off the plastic wrap.
This was my first attempt and doing this. I did run into difficulties with the transfer freezing. I think it was because I used canned whipped frosting. Next time I'll take the time to make my own buttercream frosting and see if this helps.
This Homemade Finding Nemo Aquarium Cake was made by hand (with the exception of the plants). The characters were sculpted from Play-Doh 2 days before to give them time to dry out. I put 1/2" long beads through the top of them before they dried to feed fishing wire through them once assembled.
The "aquarium" was built with 2 metal picture frames & plexiglass hot-glued together. Window mesh was also glued to the top in order to suspend the characters. The bottom was left open so the whole thing (including attached characters) could be lifted off at one time.
The cake was a homemade 2-layer (pumpkin on the bottom & white on top)frosted with chocolate icing & chocolate rocks pressed in.
The greatest part was everyone's reaction when they finally realized that this was the cake and not just an "aquarium" in the middle of the table!

My son was so into Nemo that I made him a huge theme Nemo Party. I made the Finding Nemo cake for him and he was so excited. He didn't want us to cut the cake, it took a lot of convincing.
This was actually my first cake that I made that was a full sheet. I went to Micheal's Craft store and took classes. I really loved this cake. I used the boxes of cake mix from the store. I used a total of five boxes and I made my own buttercream frosting and dye to the corresponding colors.
I also used the star tips #16 and #32 and for the writing i used tip #3. I also added flower shaped sprinkles to the border so it would look nice.
Here is a Finding Nemo Birthday Cake I did for my cousin's daughter's 2nd Birthday. I put her favorite characters on top.
The cake was yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. 8in and 6in tiers. I colored white buttercream with a mixture of sky blue and teal until i achieved the Nemo blue color. I crushed graham crackers for the sand and all the sealife is fondant. The characters are the only thing on the cake that is not edible.
The sign was made by blending light brown and dark brown fondant and then using a toothpick to get the planked effect.
I hope you enjoyed viewing this cake!

My daughter loves the movie Finding Nemo and so I just had to make a Finding Nemo Birthday Cake. My plan was to make a little Nemo to just give her after blowing out the candles.
I made cupcakes and 2 sheet cakes. After frosting the sheet cakes and making layers, I began just cutting into the cup cakes to make the little Nemo on top. I did not use the bottoms, only the tops and slowly pieced everything together.
The frosting of the characters was pretty difficult but well worth the look and yells of "NEEEEMO!"
