Finding Nemo Cake

I took two boxes of the Betty Crocker golden vanilla. I wanted a white cake so I could make it orange with food coloring because my son's favourite color is orange.

I baked it in a huge metal pan for about 25 minutes. I took two containers of whipped cream cheese frosting and added blue food coloring to it. I iced it with the blue. I took vanilla wafers and crushed up to make the sand. I took green piping frosting and made the seaweed.

I took my son's squirt toys and I put safety pins in the bottom to stick down in the cake (only because it was late at night and I didn't want to go out for toothpicks). Then I used the orange icing for the lettering. I did all the decorations in lime green, blue and orange so that it matched the cake colors.

Finding Nemo Cake

(Perth, WA)

I made this cake for my son's 2nd birthday which was a nemo party. I made the top cake from (I think it was a 8" tin) in butter cake and then iced it with blue butter cream. I used chocolate covered rasins for rocks, green icing that I piped on for the seaweed, candy fish that I found from Big W, edible silver balls for the bubbles, sprinkles for the top where nemo sits and edible glitter to give it sparkle. Nemo was a Happy Meal toy from McDonalds.

I then made a cake stand from cake boards and wedding pillars that I siliconed together and arranged cupcakes iced in the same blue, and piped in the same green around the stand. The little nemo characters ontop of the cupcakes were rings I bought off Ebay, The cake was a huge hit!

For my Finding Nemo cake I used a basic 9x13 cake and put it on a foiled board. I dyed white (store bought frosting) with food color to a light blue and frosted entire cake, very thick!

I then wet my frosting knife with water and made the "wave" affect in the frosting. I crushed graham crackers for the sand and added them to the bottom of the cake.

I tried to draw Nemo several times, but it just wasn't working, so I cut him out of one of the party napkins we had and placed on the cake. I outlined it in black, to hide the edges.

The seaweed and other plant life was hand drawn to add lots of bright color. I added some Wilton sparkle in blue to give it a little shine.
