My daughter wanted to have a flip flop 9th birthday party. It was summer and everyone wears flip flops, so I made 2 pairs of flip flops cakes out of loaf pans, one pair is vanilla and the other pair is chocolate, both decorated with buttercream frosting.
The straps were made of 2 colored twisted licorice pieces and just stuck into the cake with toothpicks. The decorations are jumbo confetti sprinkles. I crushed some graham crackers on the cake board to look like sand.
This is a 1/2 choc, 1/2 white cake. It's the first time I have ever cut a cake into the shape of something but it was so easy. I just drew the shape onto a piece of cardboard, cut it out and placed it onto the cake and cut around it.
For the straps I just used Twizzlers with a tooth pic in each end for support. Very simple but it turned out cute.
