Flower Cake

One of our friends is getting married this summer and I offered to do her bridal shower cake. I really liked the look of fondant flowers and wanted to try and make her a flower cake.

I started by making 2 cakes, one chocolate in my big cheesecake pan, and one vanilla in a 8inch round pan. Then I made the fondant (super easy, just melted marshmallow and icing sugar). I rolled the fondant and put it on the cakes witch I had previously frosted. The rest of the fondant, I tinted blue, pink and brown to do the flowers.

I didn’t have any cookie cutters to make the flowers, so i just used a butter knife and tried to do my best. To stick the flowers on the fondant, I just dabbed a little bit of water on them. I used chocolate icing to do dots in the middle of the flowers.

To finish it off, I rolled little balls of fondant to hide the uneven bottom and then cut lines of fondant. The bride really liked the cake and so did everyone else at the party!

  1. I am going to try a cake like this for my daughter’s first birthday – but substitue the flowers for a big #1 and a bunch of pink/purple stars…thanks for the idea!
