Homemade Flower Birthday Cake

My daughter's first birthday had a flower theme. This Flower Birthday Cake was great because all the older kids just grabbed a flower and didn't have to wait to be served.

I made a carrot cake in a springform pan, but a round layer cake would work well too. I iced the cake in green cream cheese frosting, sprinkled with coconut dyed green for grass. I made brownie flower shaped cupcakes out of little tin moulds, normal mini cupcakes would have been just as good cause you couldn't really see the "ruffle around the edges.

I froze the brownies so that they would stay on the sticks. I stuck each cupcake on a candy apple stick that I had painted with green food colouring. The cupcakes should be made out of a really dense cake so they will hold up on the stick. Make sure you put the cupcakes on the sticks before you ice them, they're too hard to put on the sticks once they are iced (we learned that the hard way!

I made this flower birthday cake on top of a half sheet cake.

The flower pan is Wilton #2105-3055. I iced the bottom cake an positioned the flower cake atop. I first piped the smiley center using tip #18. Pipe the petals using tip #23 and making long lines until filled. Pipe remaining top then pipe sides. Pipe shell border along the bottom cake.

I discovered a nice trick on this one for my lettering (which I am horrible at). Find a font you like. Use that font for your cake message. Print its out in several different sizes an lengths on one piece of paper. Place a piece of wax paper on top of your printed paper. Using royal icing trace over your message. Let harden. Your message will peel off the wax paper with no problems. Position on cake.

Homemade Flower Garden Cake

I made this flower gardencake for my 7 year old who asked for a flower cake. My first idea came from this site where a window box flower cake was submitted.  I did thick sugar cookies for the flowers and caterpillar.

I stuck the sticks in the cookies right after I took them out of the oven. The cake itself was two rectangle cakes stacked on top of each other. I crushed Oreos to make the dirt.

I trimmed it in ribbon, and made a computer printed birthday sign that I outlined with a decorating tube. I used a basket weave tube to pipe the sides.

My cousin's little girl was having her first birthday. I had given my cousin a voucher for a free 1st birthday cake for her baby shower. I was so happy that she used it. I made her this cute little flower garden cake. Brown fondant with red and yellow flowers and butterflies. On the top it has one big red and yellow flower and some butterflies. On the flowers on the side it has her name written with each letter on a flower.

I made flower birthday cake for my mama. She is very far from me. She is in Ukraine. She likes flowers, and I decided to make this basket with flowers for her.

I used two 9 inch round cakes to make 2 cakes. I made one chocolate and one nut cake. I cut bows and put chocolate frosting. When everything was done, I covered my cakes with fondant. Fondant I made by my self. Flowers I made earlier from gum paste.

Mariana's first birthday had to be special. After they had 3 boys they've got the precious princess. The theme was "flower girl" and she wanted something simple but sweet.

I used buttercream frosting for the green and white base and grass and colored fondant with cookie cutters to create the flowers and butterflies. I also used cutters to create the letters.

This Flower Birthday Cake came out cute!
