Homemade Roses Cake

Homemade Roses Cake

It was my son's girlfriend birthday so he asked me to bake her a cake. This roses cake is a 6" orange cake iced with buttercream icing and the outer is covered in a colored fondant icing. For the top of the cake I rolled out fondant, cut it in width of about 2 inches and length about 4-5 inches. I rolled the fondant length wise to form a rose. The top of the rose I shaped and the bottom I pinched together removing any excess. I repeated this until all my roses were formed.

For the leaves I used a leaf cutter. I used a toothpick to create the veins of the leaf. I took a crimper to create the design around the top edge of the cake. I used royal icing to draw the flowers and designs around the sides of the cake.

Once done I took a fine brush and pulled in the royal icing from the outer edges in of the flower. I let that dry. Once dry I took petal dust and brushed it lightly onto my flowers. I then placed all my roses and leaves on the cake.

Lastly I created a paint with silver luster dust and painted all my outer edges. She loved the cake and was very surprised.

Coolest Basket of Roses 110

Homemade Basket of Roses

This basket of roses is my mother-in-laws 60th birthday cake I had made. She loves flowers so I decided to make this.

I stacked three layers of vanilla sponge cake and put butter cream in between each and used a serrated knife to cut them into a dome for the basket. Once it was turned right way up I used a small plate to mark a circle and scooped out a small amount the cake. I crumb coated the cake then piped it all using a weaving nozzle (No )I left a section so I could have the roses cascading down the side.

To make to roses I started with a small cone of fondant. Using my ball tool I flattened a tiny ball of fondant into a petal and wrapped it round the cone to make a 'C' shape. To make petals you should have three tiny balls then five slightly bigger then seven balls and flatten them using the ball tool and overlap each petal till you have the required size of rose. Edible glue is good for sticking the petals together.

The 60 is bought from Hobbycraft.

I finished the cake of with thin pieces of violet fondant to look like material wrapped around the basket.

Hope you all like it.

Homemade Basket Of Flowers Cake

This Basket Of Flowers Cake is the cake I made for the cake decorating class. It is a rectangle cake with basket weave done on the sides with chocolate buttercream icing. The flowers are Wilton roses made with royal icing made ahead of time.

The leaves are made of fondant. I made a nest using brown fondant and added almond candies as birds eggs.

Very impressive cake, Leni.

This shows a lot of effort , a lot of pre-planning (the flowers have to be made ahead) and creativity. I couldn't see the basketweave on the side. But I am sure it is lovely.
