This Flower Pot Fairy cake is red velvet layers with cream cheese icing. I baked five 10 inch cakes so I would have enough cake to make it high enough to look like a flower pot. Five layers staked and carved to shape flower pot. Iced then covered with homemade fondant almond flavored.
All the flowers are made of fondant, took days to make them. The fairy was hand carved with fondant. Even all the lacing around the flower pot is made of fondant, small strings to make it. It was so much fun to make.
This cake was made for a dear friend of mine who is going through some tough times right now, it was her birthday and I knew it would cheer her up. It was an amazing cake to make.
Everyone who had a piece of it said that the cake was moist and delicious. And it's my very own recipe for red velvet. So it made me very proud of this cake. My friend kept all the flowers and put them in a vase so she could keep them to remind her of her special day and a birthday she would never forget.
I made this Flower Pot Cake for mother's day for my mother in law. I used Oreo cookies for the dirt on top and fondant for the flowers. The whole cake is edible! The cake is French vanilla!
I baked two cakes, put them on top of each other, added the icing in between the tiers and then went with the knife around to shape it down as a flower pot. Once I had it shaped more or less I covered it in fondant.
I added a ribbon as well as heart shaped fondant around the pot. For the flowers I left the fondant a bit thicker so that I give the impression of 3d and I used different sizes of cookie cutters and placed them around higher and lower. The leaves are hand made and I used tooth picks to hold them up next to the flowers. I also placed some on the dirt as if they have fallen.
For the honey bee I used a cookie cutter as well. At the end I just added the little tag with Happy mother's day. My mother in law absolutely loved it!
My friend's daughter asked me to make a cake for her to take to a Bake sale at school. At first she said she wanted roses, but that scared me because I had not been decorating cakes for very long. So she helped me out and changed her mind to just flowers in general!
This Flower Garden cake was the first cake that I made from scratch and it turned out fine. I was pretty excited to do this cake, because it was right after I received my first set of decorating tips and was an opportunity to use my grass tip!
After the white icing had begun to harden, I used a toothpick to draw my flowers on the cake. I then tried to use pretty bright colors that a little girl would like. I also tried to make a butterfly, but it didn't turn out so great. Oh well, at least the little girl I made it for loved it!
