Flowers and Bugs Cake

by Elizabeth Licea
(Texas)

My youngest daughter was turning 3 and she chose the flower and bugs theme at the local party store. I was able to borrow two different sized flower cake pans from a friend and I made the fondant from a marshmallow fondant recipe I found online. To color the fondant, I found it easier to add the food coloring while the fondant is still in liquid form. I also make my own buttercream icing.

To make the fondant shapes I rolled the fondant out as thin as I could get it and used my smallest biscuit cutter for all the shapes, from there, I just used a knife. I made two different flowers, ladybugs, and butterflies. To make them stick, I just dabbed a little water on the back side. My daughter was absolutely thrilled by the way it turned out and I was quite surprised too. The way I made it, it does not require any support.
