I made this Football Helmet Birthday Cake for our son for his tenth birthday. He LOVES Texas Longhorns so I just had to attempt to make him one. The top of the cake was baked in the Wilton ball pan which was then placed on top of two 9" round cakes.
I used 3 boxes of cake mix for this cake and the icing is the Wilton crusting buttercream recipe from the Wilton site. I doubled the icing recipe in order to have enough. I crumb coated the cakes before I layered them and carved off a little less than half of the layer cakes for the face mask "hole".
I then carved off any excess from the sides to round it up. The face guard is made from pipe cleaners. The longhorns are made out of royal icing with orange and a little brown food coloring mixed in. I printed off a longhorn template from the internet, taped some wax paper over that(on a flat surface) and just piped the icing over the image. I then removed the wax paper(with icing on it) and taped it down to the side of the ball pan so when it dried it would have the shape of the side of the helmet.
For the black icing in the "hole" of the face mask, I used canned chocolate icing with a little black food coloring mixed in. I used the Viva paper towel method to get the icing as smooth as I could. I also used a couple of wooden dowels in the cake for support.
I think it turned out pretty good for my first sculpted cake and our son was VERY happy with it.

This Homemade GA vs. FSU Football Birthday Cake was made for a birthday party for 2 friends, one a GA Bulldog fan and the other FSU Seminoles fan.
I made an 11x15 yellow cake cut in half filled and frosted with homemade buttercream colored green for the field. I cut strips for the lines out of MMF with a pizza cutter, and the numbers were also MMF cut with little fondant cutters. The goal posts I used gumpaste, shaped and set over night. The helmets I shaped rice krispie treats covered in MMF and used Duff's Cake Graffiti spray in red and gold, the masks were gumpaste and the logos were gumpaste and free hand painted with Wilton's icing color(mixed with a little clear vanilla). I also used gumpaste for the name plates on the front of the helmet. The football was also shaped with rice krispie treats covered in MMF colored brown. I used some green MMF and cut out triangles to place around the football (painted a little water on the back and "glued" it to the football) to give it the effect of busting out of the cake.
I had so much fun making this cake, and besides a few flaws it came out great and they loved it!

We celebrated a co-worker's birthday (he happens to be a HUGH Jets fan) along with Bosses Day. So I made a Jets cake for his birthday with a goal post saying he scored another point along with 3 small 4" cakes decorated for each of the bosses as football players.
One of the bosses is a woman so I put a pink bow on her helmet and pink lips!
This was a cake for a 17th birthday boy who loves the Colts. I took the logo from their website and drew it with a toothpick on to the plain white buttercream background. I then traced the outline with a round tip in blue and filled it in with a star tip in blue buttercream. Obviously, the name is freehand cursive, but the rest was carefully planned out.
This Lineman Cake is a cake I made for my brother in law's birthday who is a lineman. It was fun to make. I just used regular icing and food coloring for different shades and sugar sheets for the lineman. I was actually pleased with it, considering it was my first time.
