Homemade Football Field & Helmet Cake

I made this Football Field & Helmet Cake for my nephew's graduation & birthday party. He played high school football and will be playing football in college next year.

The helmet is made out of the sports ball pan with fondant facemask. I pressed the letters of the schools into each end zone and his last name into the "name plate" on the helmet. Fortunately for me, the two schools have coordinating team colors!

The field and cake board were piped with green buttercream to resemble grass. I made matching team colored cupcakes with my extra batter.

College Football Field Cake

I wanted to do a football field cake for my husband's birthday. I used (2)11x15x2 cake pans, and 4 Betty Crocker mixes (2 for each layer).

I used Wilton brand frosting tubes for the black, and red. Homemade buttercream frosting for the green, brown and white. The goalposts were made of sucker sticks that I tied together, and then covered in white paper. I stuck toothpicks on the bottoms to stick into the cake. I super glued two candles on each of them.

Great job!

You did an awesome job on this cake! I'm going to make one for my 7 year old's bday party. I have never decorated a cake before so this will be the first. It looks pretty simple! Just need to figure out what to use for the goal posts! I think I'm going to make 2 9X13 pans, one chocolate, and one confetti cake and put them together to make a bigger one. Hope this works for me!

I used the Wilton football pan to make this Football Birthday Cake Design. I made chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut Italian meringue buttercream filling. I baked two cakes and placed one upside down and then added a moistening syrup, then the filling.

I then placed the other cake on top and crumb coat iced it. I covered it with chocolate brown homemade fondant. I cleansed and used my son's miniature football to press onto the fondant in order to achieve the detail.

Using royal icing, I made the goal posts and face guards for helmet. Used a grass tip to add grass to goalpost cupcake. I took 6 wallet sized pictures of my son and cut out his body so there was no background. I then used packaging tape to laminate them so I could insert them into the cupcakes.

My husband and I love Auburn Football season and I always decorate the house and do tons of cooking for the parties. I also make several cakes and this Football Cake Design is one of them.
