This Football Birthday Cake came about when a friend asked me to bake an Alabama football cake for her son. We looked up a football field and went at it. We used boxed mixes, a lasagna pan (11.5" by 15"), and football shaped cake pan from local craft store.
Tips for decorating:
1. Don't make frosting at home unless you have an electronic mixer. Blisters can occur. 2. When making your own color, it will darken overnight. 3. Try to use the same type of frosting over the whole cake. 4. Make sure you have a way to transport the cake. 5. Write out what you want to write on the cake as a reference-even if it they are "common" words. 6. More frosting is easier to spread. 7. If making your own frosting, make sure you add enough liquid to batch that the frosting stick to the cake.
Have fun. Perfect cakes are make with love and taste good, even if it looks a little "unprofessional".
My son is in love with football, so we decided to take a sneak peak of some ideas here for a Football Birthday Cake, and use them into a "2 year old" cake for him. We loved the "asteroid football" idea, so we made a half sheet cake (takes three cake mixes) then frosted the 'turf' with green frosting (white buttercream colored with Wilton forest green). Then we added a bit of dyed green coconut for the grass, to give it texture.
For the football, I baked a cake in the Pampered Chef Batter Bowl and then rounded the edges to shape the football, once cooled (if you freeze it first, it is easier to cut). Then fudge-frosted it and piped on laces. I dug around the football to look like it smashed into the grass, using crushed Oreos.
I made this Football cake for my boyfriend's birthday.
The cake is covered with fondant. I hand cut the jersey and school logos, as well as the numbers on the jersey. The numbers around the bottom of the cake were all his senior teamates.
In total this was a really simple cake to make. I pre-cut the decorations and wrapped them in plastic wrap to keep them moist so everything was ready to assemble. The field was white cake and the football was chocolate. I found the football cake pan at Michaels craft store. From start to finish, this cake took me about four hours.
I made this Homemade Football Birthday Cake for my son's 8th birthday. I decided to do a football cake because he's in a football team. It's vanilla flavored with vanilla frosting but I changed the colors to try to get a green for the grass and used chocolate for the football color.
Every one liked it and thought it was creative. I have always loved to bake cakes. My son loved it. He thought it was cool. It was very tasty and moist. It was a not a lot of hard work. I love making cakes as well as Wedding cakes also.
