Fun Polka Dot Birthday Cake

This was the first cake I did, the base is a 9x13 sheet cake and the top is two 6? rounds. The mom told me she wanted polka dots, stripes and the colors I used and I was to go with it, so I did! The entire cake is covered in butter cream icing, all the decorations on the cake are made with Wilton Fondant, the 6? top cake has a separator plate in between it and the base as well as support dowels. The squiggles and numbers are also made out of Wilton Fondant, but I will use gum paste in the future for the numbers. The squiggles have an extra long point, which is how I got them to stay in the cake, and the numbers have florist wires inserted in them so they could be inserted and give the appearance of sitting on top of the cake. This was fun, but if you?re ever doing a bright colored butter cream like this, make sure you have enough gel coloring, I used almost an entire bottle!
