Rose S.
Alto, MI
This is a regular cake mix cake. I frosted it liberally with light blue buttercream. For the bee I found a cute bee online and printed out the picture. I cut the bee out and used a toothpick to trace around him. I frosted him with various colors of royal icing. The flowers were freehand. I used a paring knife to lay down the colors of the bee. The details are all piped.
This garden cake was easy to make but took a long time because I had to be so precise. I spent probably an hour and a half decorating it. My three year old absolutely adored it. Tip: to make black icing without using up all your black food color first darken the icing with cocoa. The cocoa does make it stiffer and harder to pipe but it saves so much time.
