Ladybug Cake

Ladybug Cake

My daughter's second birthday party had a ladybug theme but since she is a little girl, we didn't want it to be red & black so we used greens & pinks and made it a "girly" ladybug.

I used the Wilton ladybug cake pan and then iced the body light green & the head & feet pink. I used thin black string licorice to make the smiling mouth & capped the ends with pink gumdrops (that had been cut in half to lay flat).

For the eyes, I piped white icing circles and placed black gummie candies in the center, and added more licorice strips for dramtic eyelashes. I used the licorice again for the antenae shaping it to curl & be raised slightly off the cake & capped the ends with purple gumdrops. I also put a strip of licorice doown the center of the cake to divide the wings.

The ladybug spots are pastel colored chocolate mint candies in shades of purple, pinks, green, and white. This was perfect for a very girly 2nd birthday!

What's wrong with red and black for a girl?

I totally get the "no black and red for a girl" thing. That's why your ladybug caught my eye! Great job!

Girls just usually don't like black, at least little girls don't. No strong colours, they like soft ones.
