Golf Cake

I made this Golf cake for my husband and his friends. They all have birthdays within a week of one another and all love golf.

I baked a double layer 9X13 cake. Once the cakes were stacked I carved out the sand trap and water hazard, I used the pieces to create the elevated ‘green’. I iced the water hazard and sand trap white, and the remainder of the cake was iced green.

I actually used 3 different colors of green for the cake. One for the “green”, one for the fairway and one for the rough. To make the “green” really really smooth I actually thinned down my icing and almost poured it on. I just jiggled the cake to smooth it out.

I also made chocolate icing and used a #12 tip to make ‘rocks’ around the edge of the cake. I used the grass/hair tip to create the rough and added trees and plastic rocks from dollar store animal miniature sets. The flag is made out of a toothpick and paper.

I also used toothpicks, electrical tape and tinfoil to make golf clubs. There is one in the water, one in the trees and one in the man’s hand in the sand trap. The sand is just crushed Nilla waffers, and the water is store bought blue gel icing, I needed about 3 tubes.

The men are actually from the Wilton Soccer cake topper pack and worked well for my disgruntled golfers. The Crocodile is from one of the mini animal packs I had mentioned earlier. I loved making this cake, it was so much fun and the guys had fun trying to figure out which guy they were on the cake.
