My friend saw a picture online and wanted me to make a Graduation Cake for her husband. He had just graduated from a Respiratory Therapy program. The stethoscope and grad cap are made out of fondant.
For the cap, I used a small piece of cardboard for the top and put the fondant on that and I used a small paper cup covered in fondant for the base. The stethoscope was basically just rolled out and I shaped the other pieces myself. I made two sheet cakes from scratch and cut them down a bit and carved the sides so it looked more like a book.
After I covered the cake in blue fondant, I used white strips of fondant for the pages. I then used my fondant tool to make lines on the strip so the pages would seem more real. The writing was done in buttercream.
My youngest sister was graduating the same year I started making cakes so I was very excited about this Graduation Cake! Her high school colors and college colors were almost the same! She was going into drama which is why I made theater masks in fondant. She was also studying journalism in fashion. For that I made tiny different shaped magazines and cut out the mini pics of real magazines from the order form cards!
That and the flags on the top are the only things that are not edible. Everything else you can sink your teeth into! The bottom cake is a full sheet cake. The top is a 2 layered 6 inch round covered in fondant. The bows are made out of gum paste and the name is fondant. Will be doing another one this summer, maybe more!
This Graduation Cake was made for a friend's graduation party!
I baked and stacked 1/2 of Wilton's sports ball & 2-13x9 cakes, a little off centered! They were both crumb coated and final iced in the color of the graduation girls choice, then each outlined with the others color! Three sides were iced white with tip #12 to create the pages look, while the 4th side (spine) was iced in the book color. The words were iced with tip #5!
The graduation hat (sports ball) was placed on a board cut to size and covered with fondant. The top of hat was 2-8" boards glued together and covered in fondant also! They were attached with gum paste. I alternated purple and black stars with tip #16.
The cake was great, everyone loved it, and I love a challenge!
This Graduation Cake I made for a doctor graduating. It was also her birthday. The bottom tier is choc biscuit cake and choc sponge and the top tier is choc sponge. I covered the entire cake with white fondant and added black fondant strips and white stripes.
All the extras around the cake Stethoscope, Hypodermic needle, Pills are made using fondant. The pills are glazed to get shiny effect. I made the mortar board by using a shallow bowl to mold cap and cut a square of black fondant and let it dry out. I used Wilton silver spray on the stethoscope and Wilton clear glaze for shiny effect.
The balls are made from white fondant rolls and the medical symbol is cut free hand out of black fondant and again left to dry.
This Homemade Graduation Cake was my absolute first fondant cake. It was my daughter's grade 8 graduation and I decided to give a shot (the decision came shortly after we tried to order a fondant cake for my niece on short notice -5 days) and all bakeries told us was they need at least 1 week for fondant).
This is a red velvet cake with butter cream topped with rolled fondant. Absolutely amazing and was a great hit. I rolled the fondant very thin, everyone ate it! I used things from the house like a bowl for the cap with some cardboard. The lettering I gotta work on.
