Granny Goose’s 82nd Birthday Cake

This cake all started with the joyous find of a goose cooky cutter. My grandma has always been a huge influence in my life. She chose to be called “granny goose” as several of her eighteen great-grandchildren associated her with the geese that flocked to the pond on the property. My grandpap sold that property years ago and moved into town but the beloved title stuck with my grandma. This is a multi-tiered carrot spice cake decorated in handmade marshmallow fondant with pressed handmade marshmallow fondant flowers, two inch cut out handmade marshmallow fondant flowers and small leaves and approx. 3 1/2 inch handmade marshmallow fondant geese cut outs. The shell border and modified shell border are vanilla buttercream icing. The 2 inch flowers on top of the cake (there are 5 matching flowers set in a ring pattern centered) and around the middle of the cake are pink handmade marshmallow fondant hand painted with thinned pink gel coloring and edible pink pearl dust. I used a fondant cutter for the flowers then pinched them gently to give the flowers dimension. I also hand painted the geese with white pearl dust. I attached the small pressed fondant flowers to the geese with royal icing then handpainted them to match the 2 inch flowers. To make the cake appear finished and slightly shiny, I used a new artists paint brush to hand paint all the plain fondant surfaces with vanilla vodka. (A trick learned from watching cake decorating shows.)
