Kyle's green tiger
My son and I made this cake for his ninth birthday, along with a beautiful pink polk-a-dot cake we made for our baby girl, who was turning one!! We baked all three layers in springform pans, tiered. We coated each cake with buttercream icing to start. Then we made Marshmallow fondant for the covering! Such an easy recipe, it only requires mini mellows, powdered sugar, and crisco, and of course food coloring if you want to add color to your creation!
The first batch of fondant, we colored brown and from it we cut the accents for the cake. We cut the name, "KYLE" and a number 9, and some tiger stripes. We also used this to cut some ribbon style trim for the bottom edges of the cakes.
The next batch of fondant we colored a lovely minty green, this is the primary color of the cake!
We rolled out and covered each individual cake with the green fondant, and then stacked them. Finally, we added all the beautiful brown accents, using our buttercream icing as a sort of glue to hold the accents on the fondant!
We were both VERY pleased with the way our cake turned out, its the very first one I have ever done using the fondant, I bet I will never use just regular icing again! It looked so great! And we got so many compliments on it! Perhaps the very best part is that my son, Kyle, and I spent some quality time together doing something we had fun with!!!
