When asked to make a guitar cake by my four year old daughter for her upcoming Hannah Montana birthday party, I was a little skeptical. I browsed through photos of guitar cakes and the Disney Hannah Montana electric guitar online to get some ideas. I ended up drawing out a template using 8x10 copy paper (with a little help of my daughter's paper guitar toy that she had gotten last Christmas).
I made two 9x13 cakes, one chocolate and one white as requested by my daughter. I leveled them so they were both the same height and then cut out the pieces using the template, and then arranged them on a large foil covered piece of cardboard. I covered the entire guitar with buttercream frosting, and then covered it in fondant. I had premade the marshmallow fondant a day prior and had all pieces cut out and ready to make assembling the cake easier. I used some metallic powder on some of the fondant to give it extra shine.
The final touch on this Homemade Hannah Montana Electric Guitar Cake was adding the edible Hannah Montana cake decoration purchased to match the party supplies (another birthday girl request); I cut out around the image before adding it to the guitar. I am very pleased at how this cake turned out...and the birthday girl was ecstatic!

My niece loves Hanna Montana and really wanted a special cake for her birthday so I tried making a Hanna Montana Guitar Cake. I went to Toys R Us and took a picture of the Hanna Montana guitar they had for sale with my camera cell phone for inspiration.
I used a Wilton guitar pan but I thought the neck seemed too short so I added a small of cake to the neck to make it look more proportional. After frosting the cake I covered it in purple marshmallow fondant that I then painted with luster powder for the metallic look. I cheated with the Hanna Montana lettering because I knew I'd never be able to make it that nice by hand so I bought a doll for my niece and cut out the cardboard lettering on the box of the doll and used it on the cake - SO much easier than trying to do it myself.
I then molded fondant to look like the rest of the guitar components and painted the pieces with metallic silver luster powder. The guitar strings are thin spaghetti painted with the same metallic silver luster powder. The stars are pre-made sugar stars I bought from my cake store.

My good friend's daughter was having her 6th birthday and I volunteered to make the Hannah Guitar Birthday Cake, really didn't know what I was in for, but it turned out great and she loved it. I have made several cakes over the years, but this was by far the most difficult.
It took six cake mixes to make and 2 and 1/2 bags of powdered sugar. My son has a small electric guitar that I modeled this after, so it is lifesized. It fed 40 people. I never thought I could ever do anything like this, but my friends and family assured me that I could make a living at it, but I would never want something so enjoyable to turn into work.
I would love to do this as a job, but I am very insecure about my work. The thought of someone paying for it and not liking it is too much for me. So I thought I would put it out there for the world to judge and I would really like to know what people think. Thanks and I really appreciate your website.
