I started to become interested in cake making after making a cake for my daughters' 7th birthday (Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs). I then went on to make my youngest daughter's christening cake, and was hooked from there.
This Guitar Birthday Cake was one of the first cakes I attempted for someone other than a family member, a work colleagues' son.

I was a bit daunted at first but relish a challenge! I found a few images of an electric guitar on the internet to give me inspiration and ensure accuracy of detail.

The cake is made of Madeira sponge and carved to shape. I found this bit quite challenging. It's then covered in fondant, painted with edible colors and sprayed with edible pearl food color.

I found the whole experience very rewarding, and whilst hard work, extremely satisfying. I'm a bit of a perfectionist but believe that if a job's worth doing it's worth doing properly.

Doing this cake has inspired me to make several more but this guitar cake remains one of my favorites.

I made this Guitar Birthday Cake Design for a friend who wanted a guitar design. I used a guitar-shaped pan. The cake was carrot cinnamon which I frosted with buttercream frosting. To strengthen and even-out the sides, I lined the sides with rectangular shaped biscuits which I painted with chocolate so it holds in place and makes for an even finish. I used purple and blue sugar glitters to make the outline and used round candy sprinkles for the guitar keys. I used a round chocolate-coated cookie for the hole and a rectangular one for the bar. I added chocolate crispies on the border and used butter cream icing to make the guitar strings.

With a star tip piping bag, I bordered the cake with buttercream frosting at the base to create a neat finish.

That is a really neat cake! I love that everything is edible! Carrot cinnamon cake too? How about with cream cheese icing?! Either case, would've loved a taste of it!

This is the Bass Guitar birthday cake I made for my twin boys' 3rd Birthday Party. It was a huge success. Everyone loved it. This is also the very first specialty cake I've ever made. I think it turned out pretty fresh. Most of the party consisted of three year olds and a bunch of teenagers.

It was a big hit with both since my 17 year old brothers band gave the kids a concert as well. My friend and I have been recruited to do a few more cakes for the kids who attended the party!

I made this Guitar Birthday Cake Design for my daughter's friend's birthday party. She asked if I could make a guitar cake. I traced a small guitar my children had and went from there. The strings are licorice and the knobs were peanut butter cups.
