This was a rush Luau party cake. My 11 yr old daughter wanted a Luau party for her 12th birthday which was in a 14 days. I searched and searched evrything would take to long to order. looked at every cake on the net. Couldn't get supplies in time. I bought two cake mixes choc icing ,white icing, food coloring and a gift bags with pictures that I cut out. I baked the cake on a half sheet pan. Used blue food coloring in one of the white icings to make the water part and a tablespoon of the chocolate icing mixed in with another white icing and three sheets of crumbled graham crackers to make the sand look. I then attached toothpicks to the cutouts and arranged them on the cake. My daughter and her friends really loved it. I put a couple of the leighs around the pan to hide it.
My friend threw a surprise party for her husband with a Hawaii theme. I made this Coolest Homemade Luau Cake. The bottom layer was 11 x 18 chocolate with banana-Bavarian cream filling. The next layer up was a 10 x 3 white cake with chopped cherries/macadamia nuts with pineapple/toasted coconut filling. And the top layer was a 6 x 3 yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling.
I used buttercream frosting throughout, using a Wilton tip #233 to make the grass. The pool of water was done using gel tinted blue. The sand is crushed Nilla Wafers and toasted pecans. The tiki hut is card stock (cut to 2 x 2) covered in toothpicks that I rubbed in used coffee grounds.
The top is just a paper cone covered in raffia! I had a blast making this cake and everyone thought it was amazing!
I made this 3 tier cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. I made all of the cakes from scratch - yellow with regular buttercream on bottom, chocolate chocolate chip with chocolate buttercream in the middle, and strawberry with strawberry buttercream on top.
I covered each layer with marshmallow fondant in various colors, and cut out all of the decorations from fondant as well. I made the various seashells out of chocolate molds. For the top layer, I used this piping gel stuff that I will not use again - far too sloppy and thin, I should have just made an extra batch of buttercream and tinted it to the appropriate colors. The "sand" on bottom is just brown sugar.
This is a luau cake for a 9 yr old girl birthday. The palm trees are RKT covered in chocolate fondant, with fondant leaves. The sail boats are fondant. The tiki hut is a cupcake. The hibiscus flowers are fondant. I had a blast making this cake. It was my first cake to this extreme. The mountain is a chocolate cake covered in buttercream with grass tip. The sand is graham crackers and the shells are all fondant also. The water is homemade piping gel that colored.
This Homemade Luau Cake was a birthday cake for my daughter, Piper, who wanted a Luau theme cake. Since her birthday is in June and her parties are always at the lake, which involves a curvy road in, I had to figure out something easily transportable! (The 3D dog cake's head fell off on the ride in last year!)
