My daughter is Sanrio crazy and all she wanted for her birthday was a Hello Kitty Birthday Cake and since nobody sells it around here, I decided to make her one. I started with a red velvet cake with cream cheese butter frosting (recipe from food network website). I used two 9"x2" round cake pans. I enlarged a clip art from the internet, printed it and shaped the cake accordingly.
I then rolled out a white sugar fondant and covered the entire cake. I used black jelly beans for the eyes, lemon drop for the nose, black Twizzlers for the whiskers, red fondant and yellow M&M's for the bow. I also made a rope border from the remaining red fondant to cover the bottom part of the cake.
I brought the cake to school and my daughter's face just lit up and she had the biggest smile when she saw her cake. Everyone said the cake was amazing!
I baked and iced this Hello Kitty Birthday Cake for my daughter's 7th birthday party on Saturday 30th January 2010.I used 2 large rectangular pans - one for the head and one for the body. Luckily I have a DesertPro icing gun so it only took me about 20 minutes to ice the entire cake.
All my daughter's friends were amazed at the cake so it was a hit! After the party all that was left was the top left hand corner with the ear on it. Although the cake was fun to make and the result was great I would not do this for anyone else - my thumb was strained after icing all the blobs. The black border icing made a huge difference and is highly recommended.
This is a Hello Kitty Birthday Cake I made for a friend. The birthday girl wanted zebra print and Hello Kitty. So this is what I came up with.
The cake is chocolate cake in a 8 inch and 6 inch double layers. The cake is covered in vanilla buttercream and covered in fondant. The bottom layer is covered in white marshmallow fondant with chocolate fondant zebra stripes. The top layer is covered in pink marshmallow fondant. The flowers and Hello Kitty are made out of gumpaste. I used a pattern I got from the internet to cut out the Hello Kitty.
The sixteen on top of the cake is modeling chocolate colored pink. Easy and fun to make cake.

I made this Hello Kitty Birthday Cake for a friend who was turning 19, she had never seen one of my cakes before so it was a total surprise. I made a round Victoria sponge with buttercream filling which I also used to smooth out the cake before I iced it. I made different batches of pink icing and cut various sized flowers and sticks for the fence.
The Kitty was the toughest bit to mould trying to get the exact Hello Kitty look to her face. I really enjoyed making this and I am currently in the middle of making another, slightly different style.

This is a Hello Kitty Birthday Cake that I made for my friend's daughters birthday. She loves Hello Kitty and she likes leopard print. I was really happy with the way it turned out.
The inside of the cake was white cake that had red food coloring to go with the border of the cake. This was my first free hand character. She was very surprised and happy with the way it turned out. I got lots and lots of compliments.
