High School Musical Cake

I used a 10″ round cake pan, which holds one cake mix/recipe. It was a basic yellow cake, decorated with white buttercream frosting. For the top of the cake, I used a star – shaped cookie cutter to give the star outlines, which I filled in with aqua colored stars, and then I added the letters H, S, and M. The cake top was a musical key chain. Since I didn’t want to get frosting in it, I tried to figure out a way to put it on the cake with out sticking it into the frosting. I finally used scrunched up aluminum foil to go between the frosting and the cake topper. The bottom of the cake was bordered in aqua, and then I used spray on color on the sides of the cake. Then I put on the white border around the top. The aqua “dots” are actually oversized cake decorations (come in a jar – Wilton). Easy, but she loved it!! And she got to keep the topper.
