Homemade Buzz Light Year Cake

This cake was for our friends 3yr old son. I make baked square bas for the bottom and the ball form for the moon. The fun challenge with this cake was that there is a nut and soy allergy in the family – no shortening or oil. I did it and it tasted pretty good. It was a true buttercream frosting. I was kind of nervous on how the frosting was going to hold up. But it did well.

The color was simple – navy blue for bottom and grey for the moon. Saved some white for the lettering. I dusted the bottom and moon with silver dusting. It didn’t show up too well in the pictures, but it was fun to have it sparkle like stars.

I made the stars out of the same material as I used to cover the cake boards and glued them on wires.
