Homemade Construction Site Birthday Cake

I made this Construction Site Cake for my son’s birthday as he is absolutely loves diggers and trucks. The Cake is 5 packets of butter cake mix, 4 made in a large rectangular tin and 1 in a smaller loaf tin which I cut an “L” shape from and stuck on the top of the cake with popsicle sticks. I dug a “trench” (for the pipes) and then iced the whole cake with chocolate fudge frosting. (Recipe for frosting from the Crabapple Cupcake Bakery Cookbook). I bought the diggers, trucks and signs etc from a toy store. The “pipes” are vanilla wafer tubes, the colored rocks are chocolate which I bought from The Chocolate Box Store, The big rocks are Crunchie Rocks and the truck is full of chocolate covered fruit and nuts. My son absolutely loved it, he still talks about the digger cake and begs for chocolate rock to put in his trucks!
