Homemade Cowboy Boot Cake

I made this cowboy boot cake for my dad for his birthday. I actually got the idea for the cake from this site and thought it would be a pretty simple and fun cake to make. I knew that my dad would think it was pretty neat too. I had only made a few shaped cakes before and was a little worried that it might not turn out well. but I did alright. I first took a piece of cardboard and began to draw freehand the shape of a boot. I then cut out the shape I had drawn and placed the cardboard cutout on top of a regular sheet cake that I had pre baked earlier that day made of chocolate from a simple cake mix. I then took a sharp knife and cut along the outside edge of the boot shaped pattern. I then pulled away the excess pieces of cake so that I was left with only the boot shaped cake.I frosted the cake with chocolate frosting and did the edging with coconut frosting. I put some coconut frosting in a plastic ziplock bag and cut a small hole in it to make the spur. My dad thought the cake was really cool and it tasted yummy too!
