I wanted to make my son's cake with "Chuck" cars. I also wanted to make it cute enough for his first birthday.
I baked two half sheet( 12 inches x 18 inches)cakes. I put them side by side on a large board and iced them with a thin coat of buttercream. I made a batch of green buttercream and a batch of chocolate butter cream.
I iced one cake with the green buttercream to make the grass, but left an area for the chocolate buttercream. I finished the rest of that cake and the second cake with the chocolate buttercream. Next, I outlined a windy track with black icing. Then, I crushed Oreo cookies (filling gladly taken out by my daughters) and sprinkled the crumbs into the black outline. I also sprinkled some around the rest of the "mud". I wrote Happy Birthday in the grassy part of the cake and made a wheel with the black icing and placed a candle in the center. The last thing I did was place the "Chuck" cars on the track and pushed one or two in the mud.
It was a very simple cake to make and all of the children LOVED it. I even caught one boy pushing the cars on the track!
