Homemade Quinceanera Birthday Cake

This was a joint effort by three ladies. One designed the look of the cake. The other two baked, decorated and delivered. The bottom layer only was a 14″ strofoam base.

Next was a 12″, 10″ and topped with a 8″ layer. All double layers.

All 4 satellite cakes were double 10″ layers. First we baked all cakes using my mother in laws secret recipe. ( 1 box white cake mix combined with a scratch cake mix). All layers were covered with a buttercream coat.

We made the fondant a day ahead and refrigerated it. Here is the recipe: http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm

We tinted the fondant one layer at a time as we prepared it.

Since the bottom layer was non edible we placed black ribbon around the base and large rhinestone for bling.

The second layer was white fondant with black zebra stripe cut in random pattern. Silver ribbon around the bottom.

10″ inch layer was torquise with black candy cut in half and pressed on with a drop of buttercream. Pink ribbon around the base.

The 8″ top and all 4 satellite cakes were covered in white fondant and decorated with dark scroll work and a touch of pink. Silver ribbon around all the bases. Topped off with a crown, peace sign, sequined initial, and feathers all purchase at a hobby store.

Be sure and use plenty of dowels for support. The cake was stacked after it reached its destination. The 15 year old birthday girl loved it as did all 150 guest.
