Why should you buy a used cake pan on eBay?

- On eBay you'll find almost every cake pan that has ever existed
- You know exactly what you're getting (and you know it'll work... ;-)
- You'll probably use it only once, so why even think about buying a new one?!

Our son became obsessed with Thomas just before his second birthday so it was easy to know that he would want a Thomas the Tank Engine cake. Instead of making the cake into a train itself we decided to create a train scene like the “Island of Sodor.”

We made a mountain out of cake (chocolate cake in two round pans and one 9” square pan.) We frosted it with green and chocolate buttercream frosting. The Wilton cake frosting recipes always work wonders for me. I didn't worry about crumbs getting in the frosting because it made it look more like dirt.

We used Crunch candies, chocolate chips, and jellybeans for rocks. The best part was a tunnel that went through the cake. I emptied a baked beans can and my husband cut it on one side (to make space for the track) and covered it in aluminum foil. Our battery powered Thomas fit perfectly.

We added some finishing touches such as a lake with fish candy logs and sheep in a field made with animal crackers. We used one of the cars to carry two candles around the track. Our Island of Sodor cake was a huge hit and it was really fun to make too!

Last year our children had a Gordon cake and a Percy cake when they turned 3 and 1. My daughter requested a Henry cake this year and thus came the idea for the Island of Sodor cake with the trains running on a plastic track.

This Island of Sodor cake was made with four cake mixes. Each mix was baked 1/2 at a time to make the cake thin. Once cooled (over night) the cakes were laid out on a mirror and cut to create the water area. The extra cake was used to build the mountain layer by layer. About 6 pounds of powdered sugar was used to make butter cream icing for the "grass".

Characters and a bridge were added. The track was then carefully laid out on the island. The waterfall was also made out of butter cream icing as were the bushes and flowers. The trees were made of icing covered ice cream cones. And for the final touch a new Henry and Gordon electric train were put on the track.
