Japanese Birthday
This cake was for a friend who is very interested in all things Japanese...
The cake is just a plain chocolate cake done in a roasting tin and trimmed flat. It was then covered in chocolate butter icing, and then I sieved white icing sugar over the top. I then used 'Matchmakers' (chocolate sticks) to put a couple of stems of bamboo at each side and the bottom of the cake, and did shoots/ leaves with green glace angelica. The left over matchmakers were put round the edge of the cake.
The writing is 'Happy Birthday' in Japanese script. I found it on the internet, then checked with someone who speaks Japanese! I printed it out large, then placed baking paper over the top, so I could still see through it. I then melted dark chocolate, and using the thin end of a tea spoon, 'painted' the characters in the chocolate. This was then put in the fridge to set, then peeled off and placed on the cake.
Candles added, cake complete!
