John Deere Cake

For my son’s 3rd birthday, I wanted to make a very special cake for him. He was big into tractors, John Deere of course, since Papa just got one! I knew I wanted to do something that involved John Deere in some way. I decided to bake 2 9×13 in. cakes, one chocolate, one white. I put them side by side(Large cutting board serves well as a platter if you don’t have anything else to use). I decorated it as if you were looking from up in the air, down at different fields planted with different crops. I mixed up green, brown, and yellow frosting. I divided the cake into different squares, frosting each a different color. Then I added lines to look like rows with a cake decorating tool, you could also use a toothpick. Then I used one of the different colors on each square(in a decorating bag) to create crops starting to grow. I purchased a tractor set that also came with a piece of equiptment(a drag I think) to add to the cake. The toys also served as part of my son’s gift. Hope this gives you some ideas of your own to make your John Deere fan happy!
