Jungle Birthday Cake

This cake was my son's 1st birthday cake. He has a jungle themed room so it seemed appropriate. It was a two tiered vanilla cake w/ raspberry filling. I think it was a six inch and a ten inch but I can't remember, I got the idea from other cakes that I saw on this site. I iced it in blue buttercream and attached palm tree trunks and fawns made from fondant just use your imagination. Then I added a border using a leaf tip so that it would look like grass. On the back I made his name out of fondant to look like vines and added leaves for detail. I also created the animals from fondant, they didn't have to be perfect "just animated". I was trying to give them a baby look, since he was only turning one. He had his own cake made to look like a lion made from a mini loaf pan. I carved it to the shape of the lions body covered it in fondant then added a fondant head, tail and mane. I hope this inspires you to give it a try.
