Lexie's 10th Birthday...

by Jill Davis
(Valdosta, GA)

I made this cake for my best friend's daughter. It was my second fondant cake. She had her 10th birthday at the gym where she takes gymnastics. We wanted something pretty and girly, but not really keeping with the gymnastics theme.
The cake was a butter recipe with buttercream icing. I used cookie cutters for the polka dots and the flowers. I used jewelry wire to hold the fondant balls. I made a really cute 10 that was going to "pop" out of the top, but it broke. At the last minute I made another. Without adequate time to dry, my only choice was to place it on the side of the cake. There was already a polka dot there and I wish I had taken it off. I was scared it wouldn't come off easily, so I put it over it. It's a little too busy there for me, but that's okay.
Everyone loved the cake!!
