Littlest Pet Shop Cake

For my daughter's 8th birthday, I asked her what cake she wanted. This year, she asked for Littlest Pet Shop! So, we came and checked out the Coolest Birthday Cakes site for some inspiration. I let her pick out 3 of her favorite LPS critters. I did two 8 inch round cakes and 2 cupcakes, using a store bought cake mix. I cut one of the cupcakes in half. I frosted everything with a crumb coat of white. I then did the sides just in pink (per my daughter's request). I made the cupcakes into the hill. I used a piping bag and the ribbon tip to pipe the grass and used the jimmies for flowers. The pond is over the white icing, and it's corn syrup mixed with blue food coloring. The beach for the little hermit crab is just brown sugar! She loved it. It was great fun to make!
