Mickey Mouse 1st Birthday Cake

by Lauren
(Lake Grove, NY)

After lots of searching for ideas, and not wanting to buy all the Wilton cake supplies and a pan - they're only available on places like eBay now, I decided to go for a whimsical version of a regular cake.
I made a chocolate candy cane chocolate cake (a Kraft recipe)and used canned whipped buttercream frosting. I bought some candy molds at the craft store for the stars and the letters. The mouse is crushed Oreo - I used a mickey mouse cookie cutter for the shape and packed the cookie down with the back of a spoon to keep it from losing shape once I removed the cutter. The stars on the side are large star sprinkles from the party store. The mickey candle is store bought. It was a big hit and my son loved it!!!
