Sheet cake and cupcake Monster Truck Course

For his party with friends, we made the El Toro Loco Cake I previously submitted. For his actual birthday, I made a sheet cake into a monster truck rally.

I baked a 9X13 cake and made several extra cupcakes. Once they were all cool, I cut the cupcakes down and "glued" them onto the sheet cake with icing. I iced the cake with my friend's buttercream icing, making sure it wasn't smooth so that it resembled mud. I used crushed oreos and brown sugar to make the icing look more like a dirt track. This, incidentally, gave the cake a really delicious crunch. I colored just a bit of the icing green and piped on some grass and a border.

I took the two plastic "crash cars" from his Monster Jam Crash Cage and pressed them into the icing. I used used two of his monster trucks and arranged them to look as if they were going through the course.

It took very little time and was super cute.
