My first doll cake
Year after year I've been making cakes for my Daughter's birthday and year after year I just want to make them better and better.
This year was her fifth birthday and I really wanted to do something special. So I decided to get my "Hands" wet and try to make a beautiful doll cake like the ones I had seen before.
This is the first time I used fondant. It was easier than I thought to use. It also dyes really easy so you can buy your basic white and dye it whatever color you want. Getting the right tools to use makes a world of difference in getting the job done. The right rolling pin, plenty of conf. sugar and a non-stick mat made fondant easy to use.
I used Pound Cake (store bought, boxed) on my Doll cake because the texture is thinker than other cake mixes and it works well when stacking on top of other layers. Also, be sure to use doweling rods to giver your layered cake extra support.
My husband helped me make this one and we had a lot of fun doing it. Two sets of hands are always better than one and it makes the process go a lot faster.
Seeing our daughter's face in the morning was well worth the time and effort put into this project. I can't wait to make the next one.
